Our history dates back to Sept. 1959,
when several families from the Capital Baptist Church
of Washington, D.C. met at the Belt Jr. High School
in Wheaton, Maryland, with a burden and a vision of establishing
a regular baptist church in this rapidly-growing suburb
of our nation's capital.
Under God's blessing, and with the help and cooperation
of Delmarva Baptist Fellowship and the Fellowship
of Baptists for Home Missions, this vision became
a reality on May 2nd, 1963. Faith Baptist
Church of Wheaton was organized with 23 charter members.
Rev. Earl Leiby was the pastor during this time,
having come to the field August, 12, 1962, as a missionary
under F.B.H.M.
By May 1963, the church building was erected on a parcel
of ground that had been donated for a church by the
Kay Construction Company of Silver Spring, Maryland,
and with an initial loan from the Church Buildings
Committee of F.B.H.M. The church continues to hold
an emphasis on Bible teaching, evangelism, and a
world-wide missionary vision.
Rev. Leiby resigned in 1965 to accept a call to a new
field in Ohio, and the church called Rev. Louie DiPlacido,
of Massillon, Ohio, as its pastor. He began his
ministry here on March 20th, 1966, and continues
to this day.
